Tonight I worked on and completed my flipbook based on the poem The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock, by T.S. Elliot. It took me about four total hours to do and complete. I printed the poem and highlighted parts I was interested in trying to depict. I decided to focus on the lines about a deserted town and the cheap motel. So, in my flipbook you see a tumbleweed rolling through the desert, and it goes past cacti, a motel sign, and a flashing arrow.
In order to make this book I went through several steps. First I did a few sketches I wanted to use and made photocopies of various sizes. Then I used a Lightbox to trace each image I used for each scene and card, while alternating the position of the tumbleweed on each individual card. Next I went over each drawing in pen, so the images stood out more. Then once the ink was dry I erased all the pencil marks. Finally I stacked all the cards in the correct order and held them with a clip on the opposite end of the cards.
Overall I enjoyed this project very much and I feel this project was very successful, even though it was a huge first task. If I had more note cards, which I might procure at a later date, I would love to continue with my narrative ideas for this project.
