My activity for today was to read chapters one through three in Animation The Whole Story, by Howard Beckerman.
Personally I am not a fan of informational book, I prefer a book that will keep me on the edge of my chair, plus I am kind of a slow reader. However the content of the first three chapters I read are quite interesting and full of fun facts and details from the very beginnings of animation until the mid 1900's. On the very first pages it tells you exactly what animation and movies are, a series of smooth flowing images. It also goes through the evolution of animation starting at the thaumatrope all the way to the Tricolored Technicolor sound movies. And the rising and falling of each company, artist, technique and style throughout the years was discussed. I was surprised that companies like Disney, Warner Bros., and Fox were mentioned. Overall these chapters were very informative about how animation was developed over the years and the amount of work that was done.
